Don’t Make Art, Make Marks

Happy March! I've been deep in content creation manner, and I cannot wait to spill the beans about my new grade! It's going to be such an adventurous and cute feel for and so many of you, who will dive deeper than ever before into your art practices. Stay tuned for more data on that course.
In the meantime, last week we had a wonderful Facebook Live workshop: Simple Marks & Creative Sparks, where I shared tons of fine art journaling ideas and some inspiration: stop trying to make art, and focus on making marks. I wanted to inspire y'all to go beyond the demand to always create a "product" and get into the mode of exploration, like a deep sea diver – let'south just meet what's downwards there, and what we can create. Marker making, whether with a brush, your hands, or random objects, is the basis of most two-D paintings. The more than nosotros understand nearly the marks and effects we can become with the tools at our disposal, the more fun we have and the more we can say with our art. I find it'south just a ton of fun to explore with repetition, variation, and pattern with marking making.
Y'all really don't need to make annihilation prescribed in your journal, just explore and savour. That'due south what your periodical is for. See the sea cream dark-green piece? That has some very subtle marks scratched into the paint, and so I glued one of my mini masterpieces on elevation. And the black and white pieces? I'd similar to try that several unlike ways to see what happens. This piece has a lot of marks scratched into pigment. I haven't played with carving in years and it was such fun. I'm excited to practice more.

Sometimes a really simple folio is then pleasing to the centre. It'due south restful and rejuvenating. That'south how I feel nearly this one.

And the minor tubes with the super fun colors are from Dick Blick matte acrylic paints line. While I honey the colors, I take to say I'm not a huge fan because when you use a larger amount they smell bad, even once they are dry. Y'all can learn from me and take a laissez passer on these, unless you want to use them on tiny areas. Lamentable Blick! I'm a huge fan mostly.
